CACAO AND YIN RETREAT

  • St. Marys Church/ The Sacred Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Come enjoy an afternoon retreat drinking one of our earth’s most precious gifts, sacred cacao (chocolate before processing), while enjoying the deeply transformative practice of Yin Yoga and heart centered meditation.

Working with ceremonial cacao is an opportunity for you to ccess deep parts of yourself that are here to assist you i creating personal transformation, a stronger trust, deeper surrender, and a more profound and joyous connection to your heart, spirit and All That Is.

The synergy of yin yoga, meditation and cacao is simply scrumptious.

Partnering cacao into any creative or spiritual endeavor offers us greater depth, access and connection to whatever it is we are working with. The cacao we will be working with comes directly from the hands of indigenous Mayans and contains a spiritual power which energizes our subtle and physical bodies and opens our heart chakras to Unconditional Love.

Nola has been shamanically working with cacao for the past 6 years in Guatemala with the chocolate shaman and is honored to share all she has learned with our beautiful seaside community.

Holding yogic postures for extended durations has been practiced for centuries and gives rise to a myriad of physical, emotional, psychological and energetic benefits. One of the first fruits of this practice is deep embodiment: to feel the body from the inside and create a union with the mind. This Oneness of mind and body is the essence of yoga, meditative practice and mindfulness of the breath and body Yin yoga stimulates the flow of chi, of prana, of life force, through the meridians of the body that flow through the connective tissue. The meridians are invisible energy pathways that engorge the organs and tissues of the body with fresh life and refined energy.

The practice taps into the body’s inherent wisdom that the mind cannot even begin to fathom utilizing its own inner resources to heal from the inside out. Just as with the ancient traditional practice of acupuncture, the needles are not inserted to be immediately removed, in Yin we suggest the shape to the body and hold for time. There are four main ways to encourage the flow of prana through the body: acupuncture, placing gentle pressure on the tissue within yin yoga, chi gong or tai chi, utilizing the breath body and mind states.

Within Yin Yoga the latter three methods can all be incorporated. In Chinese medicine stagnant or deficient chi is seen as the precursors of all illness. So in this way Yin Yoga is seen as both preventative and restorative as it enhance both aspects of healthy chi: its stable strength and its fluid mobility. In creating the conditions necessary this practice can enable our energy body to move towards its own balance, equilibrium and harmony.

MFR AND YIN RETREAT

YIN YOGA AND MYOFASCIAL RELEASE THERAPY

In this workshop you will experience how these practices complement and work together for a full body rejuvenation, rebalancing and stress release.

In the first hour you will learn MFR techniques to shift stubborn tightness in the fascia (the connective tissue ) and muscles, helping to release habitual muscular patterns and chronic pain and enhancing everyday mobility. Similar to the hands of a skilled therapist, You will learn how to use a MFR ball for self treatment, finding and treating restrictions within our fascial system, easing blocked energies, built up pain responses and chronic tension.

In the second hour, you will relax into Yin yoga for a slow and mindful practice designed to wipe your stress away physically and mentally and bring you to an altered state of being. Yin yoga is a beautiful adjunct to a busy life or indeed a more yang style yoga practice. Yin Yoga restores connective tissue health by encouraging more flexible, mobile, supple joints.  When the joints of the body become hardened by lack of movement or injury, the connective tissue becomes tighter and is less able to conduct chi through the meridians of the body. Therefore, when Yin restores connective tissue health, it simultaneously nourishes the meridians of the body and thus impacts the health of the organ systems as well. Yin Yoga enhances the flow of prana or chi' in the tissues around the joints, contributing to a balanced, healthy body.

‘ Yin Yoga allows us to impact the subtle body through inward attention and intention. As we sink into the stillness of the Yin Pose, we envision expansiveness, spaciousness and health throughout.’

YIN YOGA BY CANDLELIGHT

Yin Yoga is known as The Quiet Practice or the Practice of Quiet Power. It is a dynamic blend of modern meridian theory, floor poses held in quiet tranquility, and the contemplative teaching of a Yin style form of meditation. The practice addresses every level of our being : physical, emotional, energetic and spiritual. Within the context of Eastern medicine, “the unimpeded flow of chi” restores balance in the psycho/emotional, energy and spiritual bodies.

The long-held quiet Yin postures soften and release the connective tissue of the body and primarily targets the bones, joints, tendons and ligaments which have become tight and restricted through injuries, repetitive stress, poor postural habits and even emotional trauma. The connective tissue (fascial layers) houses the meridian system, known to many of us through acupuncture and shiatsu. The contemplative practice of a receptive style of meditation within the poses, helps to cultivate an internal atmosphere of inquiry, receptivity and compassion leading to a state of tranquility.
